Each year, Colegio Las Rosas is happy to host some of the best native English Language Assistants and this academic school year is no different. From the Caribbean - Kingston, Jamaica, meet the vivacious Josette Ricketts otherwise known as Jo the Adventurer. She describes working at Colegio Las Rosas as being a “home away from home. As a new mom, she finds it quite rewarding to work with young ones aged 2 to 6 years old. Stay tuned as Jo shares her experiences; encouraging others to pursue similar opportunities that interest them.
What is it like working at Colegio Las, Rosas?
Have you ever been to a place for the first time, like a stranger, and by the time you leave; you become family? That has been my experience at Colegio Las Rosas - just like home. What is home for me? A sense of belonging, inclusivity and a place to be your authentic self! When I made the leap and left the comfort of my island home, Jamaica; I feared not being accepted, not finding a space to shine and add true value. However, being a part of the programme, Escuela Excelente, and the Colegio Las Rosas family, I have found a place to defy all the inhibitions that held me back.
Tell us more about your transition. What's your story?
My background thus far is intersectional; from journalism to philanthropy and advocacy. A communications strategist turned international educator, who has spent more than seven years developing and implementing national frameworks that promote, business, culture, community engagement and brands in Jamaica. It made perfect sense that I would be interested in education as it allows me to enter a space where I can express my creativity.
¨Colegio Las Rosas, Kindergarten Department is a long-established child care center. Our experienced educators provide families with a comprehensive preschool program for three to five-year-olds in a loving environment. We encourage our children to learn through play and music, in a way that responds to their interests and personalities. We empower children to be independent. This way they'll thrive in Primary school and beyond.¨

What projects are you working on?
The passion project I am currently working on allows me to share my love for the performing arts, singing, dancing, theatre… All of it! Singing is my happy place. As a 2021 Karaoke World Championship Finalist, I was only too excited to work alongside the English department for our Christmas Extravaganza. This is not your typical Christmas ensemble, this is an inclusive production that brings the holiday spirit to life while tantalizing your senses and leaving you wanting more. The entire school community, students and teachers alike will experience edutainment as they have never had before. Can you tell, that I am super excited? Imagine seeing the ¨Christmas Show on Channel 1¨ come alive! Our team has been working tirelessly to make sure that our students will feel the love! Feel the magic!
